While the world reacts in anger and grief at the terror attacks in Mumbai, it’s vitally important to recognize the environment this has occurred in. Failure to do so will lead to far worse, far bloodier confrontations in the coming weeks.

India has sort this out quickly before there is a western backlash against indians living in u.k and the u.s.a. Indians have traditionally been pro-western so there must be a more complicated explanation for this.

India is the victim of the terrorist attack. Could you please elaborate on why there should be a western backlash against Indians living abroad?
Sympathy and solidarity are what I would expect from our western brethren.

I'm British and living in Mumbai and was in a bar right next to one that was hit tonight. I am devastated that a city I have felt so welcomed in, and know works so hard to attract tourists, was suffering so much tonight.

I am happy to note that you understand India fairly well.

Sad to see the magnificent and iconic Taj hotel in flames, sadder still the shocking loss of life. Hopefully the deranged lunatics and murderers will not set in course a chain of events that further destabilizes the country and endangers other innocents in India who may be scapegoated for the terrorists' repulsive atrocities. All thoughts and prayers with the people of India.

Thank you very much, Thomas. This is the kind of brotherly love we need from the rest of the world.

I read through your story. I find it difficult to go with what you are saying. You seem to have taken a simplistic approach to this tragedy.
You do not seem to understand the ground realities in India.
I am neither a Hindu nor a Muslim. I am a Christian. What is important is, in India, we do not look at one another as a Hindu or a Muslim or a Christian. We are Indians first. And, that is what matters most. There are fundamentalist elements in some religions but they do not run the nation.
You say the Hindus will take on the Muslims? Check me out on this...nothing of the sort is going to happen.
India is the largest democracy in the world and it is a mini world in itself. There is no other country in the world which has so many religions; so many ethnic groups; there are so many linguistic groups; and,the beauty of our culture is that we all live together in spite of all this.
Believe me, Indian culture is not as simple as that. I am sorry to say this but you need to know much more about India to make a comment like that.

Hi Vincent,
You don’t need to worry about doomsayers.
Carry on.
Our unflinching faith in one another is what makes this nation what it is.
Politicians, inept at least, and inept, corrupt and downright mediocre are what make us suffer.

What a shame that innocent people have to suffer again. This is similar to the senseless killings earlier in the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad. Hopefully this unites Indians and Pakistanis against senseless terrorism and they join hands in fighting a common enemy.

Tom, Terror knows no religion and I would go further to say that it knows no nationality either. Terrorism is the
manifestation of sadism of sick minds.
Also, I would like to mention here that the divide between India and Pakistan is political. Otherwise, we are blood brothers.
